At that point considerable travel restrictions were still in place, making it very difficult for us as an international Ensemble to get together. This and the fact that we had to overcome our own worries about the then still rather unknown virus made us debate whether we should actually cancel and postpone the recording session, like so many other projects.
However, we had already had to say farewell to our plans of touring Israel in the spring of 2020, something we had been working on and preparing for two years, and we were longing to make music together again, so we eventually decided to pack our bags, instruments and music and get on a train to Hannover.
For four intense days of recording we retreated to the beautiful Edelhof-Kapelle just outside the city with our sound engineer Claudio Becker-Foss, and the result is finally ready to be shared:
The Habsburg Garden of Eden
For our CD debut we selected some of our most cherished pieces from the rich repertoire of Baroque music of the Habsburg empire.
We first discovered this musical realm while preparing for the International H.I.F. Biber competition in Austria in 2017, where we received an invitation to the prestigious Resonanzen Festival Vienna as a special prize. Looking for repertoire that would fit our group, we found a number of beautiful and special cantatas and sonatas that would soon become our new favourite pieces to perform in concert.
This CD is also my first recording of violin repertoire on the wonderful instrument by Gioffredo Cappa loaned to me by the Jumpstart Jr. Foundation, making the release an especially exciting event for me.
